My Journey

Every person I’ve worked with who has experienced trauma, adversity, or profound life change has left a lasting impression on me. From each of them, I’ve learned that no two journeys through change, transition, or loss are ever the same. While my qualifications and professional experience assure you that I have the knowledge and training to support you, it’s just as important for me to share what truly motivates my work.

My career began in the early 1990s, working in nurseries with babies and young children. As a young parent myself, this path fit naturally into my life and deepened my understanding of early childhood development. I went on to complete childcare qualifications and worked in various educational settings.

As I supported children, I became increasingly curious about their wider family networks. This led me to study counselling  I wanted to better understand and support the adults behind the children.

My first counselling role was over 15 years ago, volunteering with Cruse Bereavement Care. I worked with families who had experienced sudden and traumatic loss, often witnessing the raw reality of grief and anguish. That experience cemented for me that this was the work I was meant to do.

Over the years, I blended my counselling and family support work taking on roles with Sure Start Centres and local charities, working closely with vulnerable children and their families. I supported them one-to-one and holistically, applying my therapeutic training in real-world contexts. I became a fully qualified counsellor, registered with the BACP, and began running evening and weekend counselling groups for adults, continuing to deepen my practice.

Later, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, building on my experience with adults and seeking to better understand young people’s mental health needs. During this time, I also worked with the YMCA, supporting young people dealing with self-harm, anxiety, depression, and homelessness. This gave me invaluable insight into the challenges adolescents face and strengthened my work across age groups.

Eventually, I stepped into leadership managing a team of family support workers and providing therapeutic supervision and emotional support to staff. This experience developed my leadership skills and led to further qualifications in management.

During this time, I frequently liaised with teachers and began to notice something significant: educators were quietly reaching out, often sharing their own anxieties and emotional struggles. It became clear to me that professionals particularly those in education needed support too. My focus naturally shifted, and I began working closely with schools in Birmingham, Tamworth, and Staffordshire, offering wellbeing support to teaching staff.

After more than 27 years of working within organisations supporting children, families, and professionals, I made the decision to spread my wings and start my own practice: a space where I could bring together everything I’d learned, and focus on what I care about most — helping others and promoting mental wellbeing.

Looking back, I can see that my interest in helping others began in childhood. I grew up in a time when mental health was rarely acknowledged, and support was limited. That early experience continues to drive my passion to be a visible, compassionate, and effective source of support for others.

Today, I bring a wealth of knowledge, practical experience, and deep empathy to my work. Whether I’m supporting individuals through counselling, supervision, or wellbeing services, my aim is always the same: to meet people where they are, honour their unique journey, and help them move forward with confidence, clarity, and care.
